Information Systems Specialist

  • Responsible for workstation support for a site with ~800 users and 400+ workstations in 6 buildings. Experience supporting Wintel workstation platforms including Win95, Win98, WinNT, WinXP. Experience with Mac systems up to OS 8.6. Duties included software troubleshooting and installation and hardware troubleshooting.
  • Managed workflow for first level workstation support personnel. Prioritized jobs and assigned to first or second level support as needed. Primary on-site technical resource for local support team.
  • Managed user network connectivity by working with telecommunications vendors.
  • Local administration of LAN running Microsoft NT 4.0. Administered creation of accounts, groups, permissions and directory structure. Administered creation of LAN print queues and configured network printers to work on the LAN. Worked closely with remote server administrators and managers to troubleshoot problems.
  • Managed Local Area Network running Netware version 3.1 with ~800 users and 50 LAN printers.
  • Responsible for LAN side of WAN printing from IBM and UNIX mainframes. This included local troubleshooting of mainframe print problems and administering print queue creation and formatting.
  • Part of five person team that implemented a migration of LAN from Netware to NT servers. This included two sites with 3 Novell servers, 1500+ users, 800+ workstations, PC and Mac platforms, served applications and shared documents. The two sites included the business headquarters, primary production facility and primary research facility for a multibillion dollar enterprise that is part of an large international firm. I was personally responsible, along with the LAN manager for our sister site, for configuring the NT servers. The final rollout involved coordinating the work of two DuPont teams and three different vendors. I was responsible for migrating the personal data of 400+ users, as well as the shared data for the research facility and business headquarters. No data was lost and the migration went smoothly, with no significant problems. I was personally responsible for supervising a team of eight vendor employees migrating individual workstations.
  • Implemented software solution that saved over $140,000 in Macintosh lease costs during the migration to NT servers. Planned implementation and coordinated rollout with NT migration team.
  • Managed the migration of 100+ Macintosh users to Wintel platforms. Provided technical assistance to users in file migration and file renaming.
  • Managed IP address assignment for our site.
  • Webmaster for local site’s web site on corporate intranet.

  • Lease implementation. Responsibilities included providing input on hardware and software configuration, and participating in planning, image creation, staging and rollout. This involved inspecting, wiping and packing lease returns and imaging, configuring, installing and testing new workstations and printers.
  • Received two special performance awards. One was given to my local IT team for self-management and the other was given for work in the NT migration.

Waste Management Specialist

  • Responsible for managing waste management facility of large research and development laboratory of automotive coatings manufacturer. Managed opening of facility and established procedures for waste segregation, collection, recycling and disposal of both hazardous and non-hazardous waste. The facility saved ~$500K in costs in the first year of operation alone by recycling cleaning solvent, steel and aluminum.
  • Responsible for compliance with state and federal laws for hazardous waste, including maintaining waste inventories, scheduling appropriate disposal and filling out Uniform Hazardous Waste Manifests. Non compliance could expose the company to million dollar fines and very adverse publicity.
  • Worked with transportation and disposal vendors to resolve disposal issues. This involved coordinating waste inventory with disposal facility schedules and transportation availability. Responsible for resolving problems with transportation and disposal.
  • Responsible for working safely with hazardous materials. The hazards included flammability as well as exposure to dangerous chemicals, including lead, cadmium and chromium.
  • Operated, serviced and maintained equipment including solvent recycling distillation unit, can washer, and various crushers and compactors.
  • Supervised contract and company personnel involved in collecting and processing waste.
  • Received special performance award for work in getting the facility operational and for financial savings achieved.

Refinish Quality Lab Technician

  • Responsibilities included mixing and weighing paint formulas, spraying test panels, performing various tests on liquid and cured paint and paint films, and recording and analyzing data from a variety of test and data acquisition equipment. Wrote exposure reports, research reports and work instructions.
  • Responsible for working safely with hazardous materials. The hazards included flammability as well as dangerous chemicals, including lead, cadmium, isocyanates and chromium.
  • Received two awards for safety suggestions.

  • Established computer based custom embroidery business.
  • Responsible for design, marketing and production of embroidery designs and embroidered apparel. This included using a variety of specialized software programs for embroidery design and production, as well as implementing a local peer-to-peer network to connect design and production computers.
  • Work with a variety of vendors for consumables, apparel and equipment servicing.
  • Design and maintenance of business website, www.rokemneedlearts.com, including development of a system that allows customers to order custom items online.
