Chinese Government Tightens Export Rules to Cull Weak Mfgs.

New auto export rules will take effect March 1 to ensure that only big and credible automakers play a role in China's push to become a major power in the global vehicle market, AFP reported. …. The licensing system will weed out auto makers that are too small to compete internationally, according to state media, which also quoted unsourced statistics showing that some 1,025 Chinese enterprises were involved in vehicle exports in 2005. ... The announcement came as the government released trade data showing Chinese vehicle exports almost doubled last year to 340,000 vehicles.
