General Motors said Monday that sales in China grew 32% in 2006, with its flagship Buick brand clearing 304,230 units to post 24.9% growth, AP reported. In total, the company sold 876,747 vehicles in China, up by about 208,000 units from 2005. The company, which overtook Volkswagen in 2005 to become China's leading automaker, says the country is now its largest single national market outside the US. GM's market share is thought to be 11.8% and it hopes this will increase on the back of investments worth US$3 billion between 2004 and 2007. On Friday, Ford announced that its sales in the country had more than doubled over the past year to reach 129,790 units. According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, total sales in 2006 are expected to rise 15% to 8 million, up from 7 million in 2005.
